how to dress a set
DESIGN APPROACH
When dressing a set, it is very important you know exactly what type of interactions the characters have with the set.This is important because it helps inform how the feel in the space. When working on this particular set, the show was called a Night In the Dorms.
In the pictures below, you are going to see the design process and how it came to be a full functioning set. It is very important that the set acts as a character too, bring the stage to life.
This production in order for it to feel like a dorm room the Director and I decided that a record wall would be a perfect fit. Also the side room you will see is a girls dorm room so the elements give that vide.
In this picture you are seeing the start of the design, the empty spots on the is where actual records are being placed.
In the image below, you can see the slow development of the set and the elements coming together. Adding the couch to the set will help the room come together so it feels like a dorm room.
In the image below you can see the final set, adding the records on the wall and more room decor, so that it feels like a active dorm room. This was a several week long project, and finally seeing everything come together felt like such an accomplishment.
Bedroom Design
When designing this room, it is a girls dorm room. So to make this room feel completely different the Director and I made sure to include certain elements. Elements include greenry, fadrics and different patterns that the main stage doesn’t have.
