how to dress a set

DESIGN APPROACH

When dressing a set, it is very important you know exactly what type of interactions the characters have with the set. This is important because it helps inform how the feel in the space. When working on this particular set, the show was called a Night In the Dorms.

In the pictures below, you are going to see the design process and how it came to be a full functioning set. It is very important that the set acts as a character too, bring the stage to life.

This production in order for it to feel like a dorm room the Director and I decided that a record wall would be a perfect fit. Also the side room you will see is a girls dorm room so the elements give that vide.

In this picture you are seeing the start of the design, the empty spots on the is where actual records are being placed.

We are slowly adding furiture to the set it help make it feel more real and also getting a feel for how the set dress playing to the space.

You see the final work here, what both side of the stage look like.

Bedroom Design

When designing this room, it is a girls dorm room. So to make this room feel completely different the Director and I made sure to include certain elements. Elements include greenry, fadrics and different patterns that the main stage doesn’t have.
